Furry Discography

This is the Furry Discography, maintained by DJC-Mike (Michael Hansen). It is reproduced on the FMF with his permission. The material on this page is not produced by FMF, though it might be of interest for you, since it deals with furry related music by non-furry composers and musical artists.
A database version of this resource is available at: http://www.discography.furryzone.net/

After seeing the vast array of documents concerning ways to feed our furries ]:o} through literture and the other arts, it got me to thinking about one area left out, that of music. Unfortunately, there isn't that many albums in which all the songs are somehow furry related (at least of what I know of relatively mainstream music). However, there are a number of songs, either as singles or as album tracks that have a major theme of either intelligent animals or even occassionally morphs. I've tried to avoid songs that have animals as a brief metaphor or the animal in the song is simply a pet. For example "Quiche Lorraine" by the B-52's is a not a furry song. Also, just because it has an animal in the title, it doesn't mean that it is furry. Thus, "Rocky Raccoon" by The Beatles is also not furry. Rather, there has to a reference to either animals doing intelligent things, a person taking on animal characteristics, or an animal/morph (it's sometime unclear) point of view. ! Interestingly, insects and reptilians are about equal with mammals in the number of songs under these conditions.

This list is now in two sections. Section one is songs that I have heard and been able to confirm that they fit the definition. The second section is suggestions from various people, but either I don't know the song or haven't heard it such a long time that I forgot the details. I'll try to move more information into the first part and keep the second part down to a minimum. If a song disappears, it means I didn't think it fit. BTW, if you have suggestion go ahead and e-mail the maintainer of this list at admin@furryzone.net, and complain. It's still my decision. I also would like to thank all the furs around the world that have suggested songs for this list. Without them, this would be a much shorter list and woefully incomplete.

And now for another pointless list....

FURRY DISCOGRAPHY
Section one- definitely
[Form:
Title         Artist
     Year       Album Title
     Comments]

The Adventures Of MC Skat Kat & The Stray Mob MC Skat Kat
      1991
The gimmick for the album is the lead MC is a 'toon cat, so strung amongst the various tracks are references to cats, animation, and Paula Abdul, who first used the character in the "Opposites Attract" video. Other than that, most of the tracks are standard hiphopnumbers, but with the occasional funny line. "I want all four paws on the dance floor"

Ali Baba's Camel       Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band
      196?       ?
A tale about an overamourous camel "Ali Baba's camel/ Loved Ali Baba's son"

Animal       Pearl Jam
     1993      vs.
Basically, he's disgusted with people. Marginal "I'd rather be with an animal"

Animals      Talking Heads
      1979      Fear Of Music
Great little paranoia song about animals in general. Lines like "Animals think/ they're pretty smart/ don't even know/ what a joke is" make this almost a FurryMUCK/ FurToonia theme song.

Bee       The Sugarcubes
1989       Here Today, Tomorrow, Next Week!
Not sure what this song is about other than about bees but some fun stuff from a bee's point of view "I eject myself at a scary speed, in front of cars and I go yeah!"

Bugs      Pearl Jam
      1994       Vitalogy
Eddie Vedder talking about bugs invading him and taking pictures. Twisted stuff. "Should I eat them?/ Raw or well done?"

Butterfly Boy       Shonen Knife
      1993       Rock Animals
This song was apperently inspired by a person coming up the members of Shonen Knife and telling them that he was a butterfly. "I want to get you/ Catch you/ Get you butterfly boy"

Carinval Of The Animals       composed by Camile Saint-Saëns
      1886?
About the most appropiate classical work I've been able to find. The music is able to convey in many instances personification of various animals.

Cry Wolf       a-ha
      1986       Scoundrel Days
Minor single from a-ha about confusion between man and wolf. "In the city last night/ I dreamt of a wolf" Interesting imagery.

The Dog With The Plastic Stomach       The Yuh-uh-uh-uhs
      198?       Dr. Demento's 20th Anniversary Collection
A song about an unusual collection of animals "He's the cat with the plastic brain/... he might play your saxophone"

Dune Buggy       The Presidents Of The United States Of America
1995       The Presidents Of The United States Of America
Funny song about a spider who takes over an R/C car "Spider woman in the back seat screaming 'go go go!'" (Also check out Feather Pluckn on the same album)

Elephant Song       Sky Cries Mary
      1992       Exit At The Axis
Song about elephants, clouds, and Buddha. "One cloud forgot it was an elephant"

Facts About Cats       Timbuk 3
      1986       Greetings From Timbuk 3
A mother bird instructing a young bird about the dangers of cats. "Cats can be callous/ and cats can be cruel/... Cats will be cats/ and cats eat birds"

The Fox       Burl Ives
      1945       Ballads & Folksongs
This is an adaptation of a 15th century folksong, but it is great for vulpines. "Then the fox & his wife without any strife/ cut up the goose with fork & knife"

The Fox       Steeleye Span
      1989       Tempted And Tried
Different from the folk song of the same name, the description in the linear notes neatly sums it up; "A song about a modern fox" told from the fox's point of view. "I'm a brown fox I'm a town fox/ And I'll teach you a lesson or two"

Froggie       The Presidents Of The United States of America
      1996       II
Great little song about a dancing frog that gains worldwide rock-n-roll fame "Rolling Stone magazine sucked him dry and made him king/ Froggie let out a big burp/ Froggie jumped all over the stage that day"

Greggary Peccary       Frank Zappa
      1977?       Studio Tan
A long (20+ minutes) track about a trend setting swine. Great lambast of 1970's culture. "He laid his shiny pig hoofs on the table..."

Heavy Metal Hamsters       Helloween
      19??       Pink Bubbles Go Ape
Allegory for the band's career, the song winds up being fun and furry! "A 20th Century Fox came by/ A gold tipped cigarette high in his jaws"

Hound Dog       Elvis Presely
      1956       Elvis Presley
I can't believe I forgot this the first time around. Definitley furry with lines like "You ain't never caught a rabbit/ And you ain't no friend of mine"

Hungry Like The Wolf       Duran Duran
      1983       Rio
Hunting for love has rarely expressed better "With a howl and a whine/ I'm on the hunt/ I'm after you"

Hyena       R.E.M.
      1987       Life's Rich Paegent
A typically cryptic R.E.M. song that hints at a hyena and its exploits. "Hyena is ambassodor to fear"

I Am A Cat       Shonen Knife
      1992       Let's Knife
Typically fun little track by Shonen Knife, possibly refering to the famous Soseki novel of the same name. "In a moment I become a sweet little cat"

I Wanna Be a Dog       Barry Louis Polisar
1979       Songs for Well Behaved Children
This song was included as part of a songbook called Rise Up Singing. All canines can really get a kick of this song. "I've got a college degree but all I want to be, is somebody else's pet"

Jingle Bells       The Singing Dogs
      1959?
      Jingle Bells as performed by tape splices of actual dog barks. Originally released as a 7" with Oh! Susanna. Can't get more furry then this ]:o}

La, La, La, He, He, Hee       Prince
      1987/'93       The Hits/ The B-Sides
Originally the b-side for "Sign O' The Times". Sheena Easton challanged Prince to come up with a song with those nonsense lyrics as the title and he came up with this furry little song (complete with a dog bark in the drum track!) "You're a cat up a tree/ I'm just a dog looking up at you"

Leave My Kitten Alone       Little Willie John
      1959
On the surface, the song sounds like a man talking to dog to stop messing with his cat. But, it also can be read has a song about man talking to someone to keep away from his woman. "I'll hit you on the head, Mr. Bulldog/ If you don't leave my kitten alone" Covered by the Beatles on Anthology Vol. 1

Maneater       Daryl Hall & John Oates
      1982       H2O
"Hey, Beavis, are you a maneater?" Top 10 hit that crosses the line of furriness with the extended metaphor of a lady as a panther "She only comes out at night/ Lean and hungry type"

Muskrat Love       America
      1971       America's Greatest Hits
It may be insipid, but it is very furry. "And now he's ticklin' her fancy/ Rubbin' her toes/ Muzzle to muzzle, now" Also covered famously by The Captain and Tenille.

My Girl's Pussy       R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders
1978       Cheap Suit Serenaders Party Record
Another double entandre song, but it's still fun "It seldom plays and never purrs/ But I like it because it's hers"

No Spill Blood       Oingo Boingo
      1983       Good For The Soul
A song that uses the imagery from The Island of Dr. Moreau for a little tune about conformity "Animals came from miles around/ So tired of walking so close to the ground"

Octopus Of Love       The Holidays
1991       Every Day Is A Holiday
Fun little song with 'morph overtones "I got a girl who has eight arms"

Parakeet       R.E.M.
      1998       Up
Surreal little song about a woman who leaves her deary existance by imagining she's her pet parakeet. "the sunspot flares of the early/ nineties light up your wings."

Pedestrian Wolves       Boingo
      1994       Boingo
Extended metaphor about the animalistic nature of modern life. Marginal. "Raised by pedestrian wolves out in the forest."

Piggies       The Beatles
1968       The Beatles [The White Album]
The most 'morphic song in the Beatles catalogue. "You can see them out for dinner/ With their piggy wives/ Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon"

The Piper       Cheba
      1991
A modern take on the Pied Piper story, but this time with the rats representing drug dealers. Interesting. "They're using and selling it/ And turning into rats themselves"

Praying Mantis       Don Dixon
1987       All The Girls Want To Dance, But None Of The Boys Want To?
A guy comparing his girl to the insect. Pretty funny, really. "She wanted him so much/ She ate his brain"

Rain Dogs       Tom Waits
      1985       Rain Dogs
According to one interview, the title came from the fact that after a rain, all the scent markers dogs leave are washed away, and so many dogs wind up lost. "Give my umbrella to the rain dogs"

Räven (Foxwoman)       Hedningarna
      19??       The Heathens Fire
One fur sent the lyrics to this song in English, and this one very much fits! A fusion of modern music with Swedish and Sami folk music, the translated lyrics are a description of a foxwoman. "Skirt hem barely hides your tail"

Reptile       The Church
      1988       Starfish
Extended metaphor about a snake hearted girl. "Your flickering tongue and rattling scales/ like a real reptile"

Roaches       Bobby Jimmy & The Critters
      1986?       ?
Parody of "Rumors" by The Timex Social Club, turned into song about some really insistant roaches "So I started to charge my roaches rent"

Rockin' Robin       Bobby Day
      1958
Happy little song about a musical bird "All the little birds on Jaybird Street/ Look to little Robin going 'tweet tweet tweet'"

Roobarb & Custard       Shaft
      1992       Only For The Headstrong
Rave based on an English children's cartoon about a scatterbrained dog and a wisecracking cat. "Roobarb played with his slim pianist claws"

Scarlet Pussy       Camille {Prince}
      1988/'93       The Hits/ The B-Sides
Originally the B-side of "I Wish U Heaven". In the tradition of George Clinton, an funky extension of an idea in an alter ego. On the surface anyways, a tale about a promiscuous kitty. "She would give it to all the neighborhood dogs"

Snoopy vs. The Red Baron       The Royal Guardsmen
      1967       ?
Song about everyone's favorite comic strip beagle and his on going fight with the Red Baron. Might be hard to find due to copyright troubles. "In the nick of time/ a hero arose/ A funny looking dog/ with a big black nose."

Stray Cat Strut       The Stray Cats
      1982       Built For Speed
Wonderful neo-rockabilly gem, perfect for your favorite feline "I'm a feline cassanova"

Swan Lake       The Church
      1992       Priest= Aura
The first verse is parrellel between ballet and drug addiction, but the second verse, the singer is talking directly to a swan. Very moving stuff (for me anyways) "One day the wolf will put his nose in/ And the water is so frozen/ You'll have swim like all the rest"

Teddy Bear       Elvis Presley
      1956?       Elvis Presley?
Marginal little song about being in love (and furry) "I don't want to be a tiger/ Because tigers play too rough"

Thunderbird       Quiet Riot
      1983       Mental Health
Early power ballad about a bird leaving "It's time to leave the nest"

Tommy The Cat       Primus with Tom Waits
1991?       Sailing The Seas Of Cheese
The essense of a furry song. Tommy (sung by Tom Waits) tells about his experiences in the back alleys. Great bass line, too. "Truly a wonder of nature/ This alley predator/ Tommy the cat had many a story to tell"

A Trick Of The Tail       Genesis
      1975?       Trick Of The Tail
A little ambigious song about alienation, but seems like an unspecified anthropomorphic creature is captured by humans and put on display as a freak. "As they led him to the cage/ 'The Beast That Can Talk' the sign read"

Underwater Rimes (remix)       Digital Underground
      1989       Sex Packets
Another George Clinton tribute. This time a series of fish puns and references. Amusing. Includes a rhyme by a "MC Blowfish" to put this over the furry edge. "I saw an octopus spin 9 records at a time"

Vultures       Boingo
      1994       Boingo
A guy wants to become a vulture to be with a girl. Twisted, but furry. "Can we fly today, can we find some fresh kill?"

Werewolves Of London       Warren Zevon
      197?       Sentimental Hygine?
The classic rock song. "I saw a werewolf at Trader Vic's/ His hair was perfect"

What's New Pussycat?       Tom Jones
      1969?       What's New Pussycat? Soundtrack
Another one of those songs that can be read either way, as a furry song, it could be about a guy who has a feline girlfriend ]:o} "I can't wait to kiss your sweet little pussycat lips" (You gotta hear this song as covered by Pizzicato Five, it's... interesting...)

The Wolf       Heart
      1985       Heart
Little rockin' number about false friends as a wolf "Just smilin' tooth and nail/ You gotta make your presence known"

The Woman Who Was Also A Mongoose       The Dead Milkmen
      198?       Not Richard, But Dick
Typical silliness from the Milkmen, this time, singing an ode to a mongoose woman. "Chasing little field mice/ running through the high grass/ That's what she loves to do"

Wynona's Big Brown Beaver       Primus
      1995       Tales From The Punchbowl
A song of double-entendres, much like "Scarlet Pussy" above, this time about a woman who really likes her pet beaver. Marginal. "I really do love this big brown beaver/ And I really wish I did have a pair"

You're Getting To Be A Rabbit To Me       Alan Sherman
      195?       ?
Humourous song about man discomforted to find his girlfriend is becoming a rabbit... and he makes it sound like such a bad thing... "Then your ears grew an inch/ and your nose began to twitch/ and your tail was attached permentally"
